Towards the end of the 11th century cold Europe is thrown into turmoil. Religious fanaticism and Doomsday prophecies provoke an unprecedented outbreak of violence. Thousands of believers seek salvation by enrolling in the Crusade against the Muslim foe. Taking the Holy Sites back becomes an obsession.  Meanwhile, in the Iberian Peninsula, also considered crusaders’ territory, Artal is received into a monastery at the tender age of 11. There, he will learn to read and write, to think like a true godly man and to wield the sword. These disciplines will turn him into a fit candidate to join the Order of the Temple.
