THE DAUGHTER

Inspired by a true story, this series depicts the legal battle over the custody of Renata, a 7-year-old adopted girl. Her biological father, Paulo, claims custody despite her adoptive parents’ wishes to keep her. After a single night with Heloísa, Paulo has no intention of continuing the relationship, especially since he already has a girlfriend. He moves on without contacting Heloísa ever again, even after learning Heloísa is pregnant, as he doesn’t believe to be the father of the child.

Faced with her status as an undocumented immigrant in the country, without a job, and without Paulo in her life, Heloísa decides to give up her child for adoption. Renata is taken in by a loving couple unable to have children of their own. Years later, Paulo accepts that he is Renata’s father and decides to fight for his daughter’s custody, leading to an unprecedented legal battle.
