Onza Presents ‘Iberia&Savannah: One Wildlife’ at Mip London

ONZA PRESENTS “IBERIA & SAVANNAH: ONE WILDLIFE” AT MIP LONDON.

“Iberia & Savannah: One Wildlife” is the new wildlife documentary by Azor Producciones, in collaboration with Onza and distributed by Onza Distribution.

The Iberian dehesa and the African savannah on the spotlight in this wildlife blue-chip production in 4K.

Azor Producciones, in collaboration with Onza, presents its latest production, “Iberia & Savannah: One Wildlife”, an ambitious 4K blue-chip documentary that draws fascinating connections between two seemingly distant ecosystems: the Iberian dehesa and the African savannah. The documentary is set to premiere in 2025 on RTVE.

Over the course of its 52 minutes, the documentary film explores similarities between these two worlds, separated by thousands of kilometers, yet functioning in remarkably similar ways. It showcases how species have developed the same survival strategy by adapting to their respective environments.

“I had always heard that the Iberian dehesa landscape was very similar to an African savannah, and at a young age, I was able to witness it,” says Eduardo Barrachina, the documentary’s director. “However, I initially thought it was just a matter of landscape. But no—the similarities between both ecosystems go far beyond that.”

“Iberia & Savannah: One Wildlife” stands out for showcasing the striking similarities in the lives and behaviors of species that live in these two different ecosystems, such as foxes and jackals, deer and Thomson’s gazelles, genets, Iberian wolves, wild boars, and warthogs, among others. Climate, topography, and even the appearance of the landscape itself shape the lives of these animals, forcing them to adapt to their environment. “This is why the resemblance between the dehesa and the savannah goes far beyond aesthetics,” says Barrachina. The documentary primarily follows the upbringings of an Iberian lynx and a leopard, from their early days as cubs to maturity, offering a unique perspective on their lives and adaptations.

We are delighted to take part in the production of ‘Iberia & Savannah: One Wildlife’. Blue-chip documentaries are undoubtedly one of the strongest niches in the international documentary market,” says Gonzalo Sagardía, CEO of Onza. “At Onza Distribution, we aim to develop a competitive catalog around this genre, one of the strongest and more stable in the international market”.

Onza Sells TV Series ‘Golden Swan’ in Canada, the United States, and Poland

Onza Sells TV Series Golden Swan in Canada, the United States, and Poland.

The acclaimed Czech series Golden Swan, a production by broadcaster NOVA TV and worldwide distributed by Onza Distribution, has been sold to Global Series Network for SVOD broadcast in Canada and the United States. Onza Distribution has also finalized a deal with Novelas+ TV, a Canal+ channel in Poland.

“These sales confirm the international appeal of Golden Swan. It is a spectacular period drama with a high-level production. The series delivers a powerful and impactful story set against a historically rich backdrop with exceptional visual settings of Prague during the Second World War,” says Carlos Garde, Managing Director of Onza.

This period drama premiered on the SVOD platform Voyo and aired on NOVA TV in early 2023 in the Czech Republic. The series has shown great viewership both on television and on streaming platforms. Its latest season, which premiered in 2024, reached 2.6 million viewers 4+ on NOVA TV in a country with a population of 10.85 million. Golden Swan made the third most successful series of fall 2023 on VOYO.

Golden Swan was the first period series produced by our television. It won the hearts of viewers not only with its fantastic sets and costumes, but above all with its lifelike characters and plots. Although the story takes place on the threshold of the Second World War, the stories of our heroines and heroes spoke very intensely to the contemporary audience”, noted Klára Follová, Creative Producer of TV Nova.

The series unfolds across a total of 56 episodes divided into three seasons (S1: 21×50’, S2: 17×50’, S3: 18×50’). The central setting of the story starts when the luxury department store Golden Swan opens its doors in Prague in 1939, on the very same day Nazi troops cross the Czechoslovak border. In the midst of this difficult historical backdrop, Bára, a young fugitive accused of theft, finds refuge in the department store. Her fate takes an unexpected turn when she becomes a fashion sales assistant. The romance between Bára and Petr, the owner of the Golden Swan, becomes a struggle between love and social barriers, all heightened by the challenges of a country at war.
