The Iberian dehesa and the African savannah on the spotlight in this wildlife blue-chip production in 4K.

Azor Producciones, in collaboration with Onza, presents its latest production, “Iberia & Savannah: One Wildlife”, an ambitious 4K blue-chip documentary that draws fascinating connections between two seemingly distant ecosystems: the Iberian dehesa and the African savannah. The documentary is set to premiere in 2025 on RTVE.
Over the course of its 52 minutes, the documentary film explores similarities between these two worlds, separated by thousands of kilometers, yet functioning in remarkably similar ways. It showcases how species have developed the same survival strategy by adapting to their respective environments.
“I had always heard that the Iberian dehesa landscape was very similar to an African savannah, and at a young age, I was able to witness it,” says Eduardo Barrachina, the documentary’s director. “However, I initially thought it was just a matter of landscape. But no—the similarities between both ecosystems go far beyond that.”

“Iberia & Savannah: One Wildlife” stands out for showcasing the striking similarities in the lives and behaviors of species that live in these two different ecosystems, such as foxes and jackals, deer and Thomson’s gazelles, genets, Iberian wolves, wild boars, and warthogs, among others. Climate, topography, and even the appearance of the landscape itself shape the lives of these animals, forcing them to adapt to their environment. “This is why the resemblance between the dehesa and the savannah goes far beyond aesthetics,” says Barrachina. The documentary primarily follows the upbringings of an Iberian lynx and a leopard, from their early days as cubs to maturity, offering a unique perspective on their lives and adaptations.
“We are delighted to take part in the production of ‘Iberia & Savannah: One Wildlife’. Blue-chip documentaries are undoubtedly one of the strongest niches in the international documentary market,” says Gonzalo Sagardía, CEO of Onza. “At Onza Distribution, we aim to develop a competitive catalog around this genre, one of the strongest and more stable in the international market”.
Sale of other documentaries
“Iberia & Savannah: One Wildlife” is internationally distributed by Onza Distribution and is one of its key new titles at MIP London, that will take place from February 23 to 27. This documentary joins the growing list of nature productions from the Spanish distributor, which has recently secured major sales: “A Whale’s Worth” was sold to TV Monaco; “The Wind Sentries” was acquired by RTP Portugal; and “Wild Tales of Madrid” was sold to China (CCTV), Poland, and Portugal (RTP).

Onza Distribution has reached an agreement to sell the adaptation rights for El Hormiguero (The Anthill), one of the most successful television shows in the history of Spanish and Latin American TV. The deal was struck with OLGA, a new live-streaming platform and one of the most-watched channels among young people in Argentina.

Onza Distribution has closed deals for several telenovelas, such as ‘Cacao’, ‘Forever,’ and ‘Value of Life.’

This agreement with Mediaset follows Onza Distribution‘s successful sale of the show’s ready made version to Estrella TV in the United States earlier this year. After several years of negotiations in Italy, Onza Distribution has finalized an agreement with Mediaset this month to adapt ‘The Anthill’ for the Italian market. This format has already been successfully adapted in several countries, including Brazil, Mexico, and Portugal.
‘The Anthill’ (‘El Hormiguero’) is the most successful prime time show in Spain, accumulating 18 seasons since its inception in 2006. Hosted by Pablo Motos, it airs on Antena 3 four times a week. The production company of ‘The Anthill,’ 7 y Acción, has also created other successful shows that are included in the Onza Distribution catalog. Among them are ‘The Celeb Challenge,’ prime time leader on Fridays with 4 seasons aired in Spain, and ‘The Way Home,’ a format recently acquired by Telefe Argentina. For its Italian version of ‘The Anthill,’ Mediaset is working on a weekly prime time broadcast on its channel Italia 1.
Onza Distribution announces new sales for documentaries ‘Young Addictions’ and ‘Real Madrid: The White Legend’, both produced by Onza. ‘Young Addictions’ (Adictos a la pantalla, 3×45’/1×52′), a documentary series portraying the reality of young people’s addictions to new technologies, has been acquired by ZDF in Germany, Al Jazeera for the pan-regional territory of MENA, Belgian channel RTBF, RTV Slovenija and CNN Portugal.

Onza Distribution started very well the 2024’s sales cycle, with ‘Cacao’ leading the way. Since its premiere last January on TVI in Portugal, and after being #1 prime time in Portugal ever since, the telenovela has already been acquired in Spain, CIS and Baltics, while important deals are still in negotiation in several other countries. ‘Forever’, ‘Payback’ and ‘Unlimited Love’ keeps engaging audiences all over the world, after being seen in the Balkans, LATAM or the US. Onza’s telenovelas has also amassed big success in awards, such as the International Emmys, which granted the Best Telenovela to ‘Payback’ in 2018 and a nomination for ‘Forever’ in 2023.
