Onza Distribution announces new sales in Central and Eastern Europe

Onza Distribution has sold several telenovela and fiction titles in itsCacao catalog in key territories in Central and Eastern Europe: Onza Distribution’s telenovelas ‘Forever’ and ‘Unlimited Love’ will travel to Serbia for the first time, whereas ‘Payback’ will renew its presence in Serbia, and ‘Cacao’ will have its premiere in Lithuania. On the other hand, TV fiction series ‘Motel Valkirias’, ‘Parot’, ‘Little Coincidences’ and ‘Flowers Over The Inferno’ will soon be available in Romania.

The international sales agency thus strengthens its presence in these regions. In addition to this, Onza Distribution is attending NEM Dubrovnik and NATPE Budapest markets, where it will seal new deals in these territories.

CEE Markets TVIOnza Distribution started very well the 2024’s sales cycle, with ‘Cacao’ leading the way. Since its premiere last January on TVI in Portugal, and after being #1 prime time in Portugal ever since, the telenovela has already been acquired in Spain, CIS and Baltics, while important deals are still in negotiation in several other countries. ‘Forever’, ‘Payback’ and ‘Unlimited Love’ keeps engaging audiences all over the world, after being seen in the Balkans, LATAM or the US. Onza’s telenovelas has also amassed big success in awards, such as the International Emmys, which granted the Best Telenovela to ‘Payback’ in 2018 and a nomination for ‘Forever’ in 2023.

Onza’s original productions, such as ‘Parot’ and ‘Little Coincidences’ keep travelling to CIS, Eastern Europe or France. In Spain, ‘Parot’ has managed to hit again the #8 spot on Amazon Prime Video’s ranking of most-watched TV shows 3 years after its premiere. Along with these titles, Onza Distribution will present to the CEE and Balkan markets the main novelties of its catalog, such as ‘Heartless’, which premiered last April on the #2 ranking in Prime Video Spain, the Czech period drama ‘Golden Swan’, and new seasons of Italian hit series ‘Flowers Over The Inferno’ and of ‘Sweet Strawberries’.

Motel Valkirias Serie

Regarding ‘Motel Valkirias’, produced by CTV in association with SPi, its sale to the Antena group in Romania comes shortly after the news of its silver medal in the Drama category at the New York Festivals. The Galician-Portuguese series has already been broadcast through HBO Spain and Portugal, the Portuguese public channel RTP, Galicia’s TVG or through the main channels of the Brazilian group Globosat.

‘Flowers Over The Inferno’ seals the deal for three new sales

Thriller series ‘Flowers Over the Inferno’, distributed by Onza Distribution, has closed three new deals this spring with the Public Broadcaster SBS Australia, Walter Presents (division of Global Series Network) in the UK, and Antenaplay, the SVOD platform from Antena TV Group Romania. Other offers are also being considered – some in advanced stages of negotiation in the rest of Europe.

Based on the best-selling 4-book saga by Ilaria Tuti and produced by PUBLISPEI (the independent production company who brought the long running series in Italy in 1998: Un Medico in Famiglia’, ‘I Cesaroni’). The first season (6×60′) of this crime series follows the events from the first book, where the profiler Teresa Battaglia must find the serial killer who kills in defense of helpless children, while facing her Alzheimer’s diagnosis. It premiered on the Italian public channel RAI 1, recording a viewership of 25.49% share, and amassing an average of 24.96%.

The second season, also based on the second book of the saga ‘Sleeping Nymph’, is currently in post-production and will premiere in the Fall of 2024. We’ll follow again the profiler Teresa Battaglia facing a complex case of murder, this time in the landscapes of the Resia Valley, at the foot of the Alps.

Alfredo Castro wins Platino Award for his performance in ‘Allende The Thousand Days’

Alfredo Castro wins the Platino Award for his role as Salvador Allende in ‘Allende The Thousand Days’. This turns out to be his fourth Platino Award in his career, after his remarkable performances in ‘Los perros’ (2018), ‘The Prince’ (2021) or ‘Karnawal’ (2022). Winners at the Platino Awards were announced at the gala hosted on Saturday, April 20, 2024, in Riviera Maya.

The series, which also received three nominations for Best Ibero-Alfredo Castro gana PlatinoAmerican Miniseries, Best Female Performance in a Miniseries for Aline Küppenheimer and Best Male Performance in a Miniseries, won in the former category against the likes of Javier Cámara (‘Rapa’, S2), Gustavo Bassani (‘Iosi, the Regretful Spy’, S2) or Santiago Korovsky (‘Community Squad’).

Allende The Thousand Days’ is a series of the Chilean production company Parox, who already received the award for Best Miniseries at the Prix Europa Awards for ‘Invisible Heroes’ in 2019, in association with Mediterráneo Media (Spain) and Aleph (Argentina). The series premiered in September 2023 in Chile and was screened that same month at an exclusive event held at the San Sebastian Festival. It has been recently launched via Spain’s RTVE, and on the French channel OCS by the end of March 2024.

The miniseries recollects the last three years of the life of former Chilean president Salvador Allende, through the eyes of Manuel Ruiz (Pablo Capuz), a young Spaniard politician who witnesses the escalation of tension until Pinochet’s coup in 1973.

This new win of ‘Allende The Thousand Days’ and its pre-selection at the International Emmy Awards adds to Onza Distribution’s track record, which includes the International Emmy Award for Best Telenovela in 2018 for ‘Payback’ or the most recent International Emmy nominations for ‘Forever’ in 2023, or ‘On Thin Ice’ in 2020. Other recognitions also include two Venice TV awards for ‘Forever’ in 2023 and ‘Life Is A Party’ in 2022, and the nomination in the Sports category for ‘Real Madrid: The White Legend’ in 2023. ‘Motel Valkirias’ also received recently the Silver Medal at the drama category granted by New York Festivals 2024.

Onza Distribution sells hit telenovela “Cacao” to Mediaset España

Onza Distribution announces sale of ‘Cacao’ to Mediaset España, TVI’s prime time leader telenovela in Portugal. This marks the beginning of a promising future for TVI productions in this country.CACAO

Cacao’ premiered last January, reporting an impressive audience share of 19.48% (861,944 viewers). Since then, it has continued to be leader of prime time in Portugal, amassing an average viewership of 18.99% share. Following this remarkable track record on television, Mediaset España has now acquired the telenovela, which will join the thematic channel Divinity’s programming grid starting from a date that is yet to be announced.

In a cocoa plantation in Itacaré (Brazil), Cacao (Matilde Reymão) makes chocolate with exotic flavors. Her life changes when the man who seemed to be her biological father, Joaquim (Paulo Calatré), reveals her true origins as the illegitimate daughter of Justino (António Capelo), the farm owner. This revelation leaves her in the spotlight as she becomes a rightful heir to Justino’s estate. And her rivals will do anything to stop her threat. Cacao’s life is in danger but Tiago (José Condessa), a charming young man she falls in love with, will do everything he can to protect her from her enemies.

Onza Distribution will represent sports documentaries produced by Wakai & Prime Video Spain: ‘FC Barcelona: A New Era’ (S1: 5×40′, S2: 4×40′, 2022-2023), ‘Marc Márquez: All In’ (5×40′, 2023), ‘Simeone: Living Match By Match’ (6×40′, 2021). This marks the start of a promising new collaboration between international sales agency Onza Distribution and production company Wakai.

“Allende The Thousand Days” receives three nominations for the 2024 Platino Awards

Allende The Thousand Days’, distributed by Onza Distribution, receives a triple nomination at the 2024 Platino Awards in the categories of Best Ibero-American Miniseries, Best Male Performance in a Miniseries for Alfredo Castro (Salvador Allende) and Best Female Performance in a Miniseries for Aline Küppenheimer (Hortensia Bussi). The political thriller on Salvador Allende’s last years will thus compete with three other series, including Netflix’s true crime hit ‘Burning Body’, and top-notch actors like Javier Cámara or Úrsula Corberó. The gala will be hosted Mexico next April 20, when we’ll know the winners of the 2024 edition.

Onza Distribution picks successful TV NOVA period drama ‘Golden Swan’

Onza Distribution just announced the addition of ‘Golden Swan’ (Zlatá labut’) to its international catalogue. The series, created by Filip Bobinski, Jan Coufal and Petr Sizling from Dramedy Productions (‘The Manor House’, ‘Away From You’), is a production of Czech TV broadcaster TV NOVA (‘Ulice’, ‘One Family’). It premiered on the channel’s SVOD platform, Voyo, last January 26, 2023 and aired in free TV on February 2, followed by a second season that was broadcast at the end of August. The third season will bring the series to an end this June 2024. ‘Golden Swan’ recorded great audience scores in its first season, hitting a 29% of share in its most viewed episode with more than 1 million viewers.

The series travels back to 1939, set in the protectorate of Bohemia andGolden Swan Moravia, under Nazi occupation, at the beginning of World War II. Bára Veselá, a young thief, enters the Golden Swan luxury department store while escaping from the police. Following a series of accidents and mistakes, she becomes a saleswoman in the fashion department and a new life opens up for her. Soon the charming owner Petr, son of the Kučera family, notices her. They fall in love, but the match is so obviously unequal. During war times, can love be stronger than the struggles to carry it through?
